South Africa Kristygoestoafrica Assignment Prayer Partners
Hello Everyone!! I'm Kristy I have recently been blessed by being accepted to the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention as a missionary to South Africa. I am going to South Africa for a shot-term assignment of 2 years as a journeyman. I have been approved for a position called Project HIV: He is Victorious! My assignment involves teaching an abstinence program in local public schools, such as True Love Waits, in the hopes that the young people will respond and the rate of HIV and AIDS will decrease. I will be working with the Tswana people in Rustenburg, South Africa. I will be working in a area called Freedom Park. It is an area on the outskirts of town, basically a community that has built up around a mine, or local jobs. The area includes hundreds of tiny government houses, mine hostels, and squatter camp area, mainly populated with tin shacks. I will be working with partners focused on orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC), mostly located in the squatter camp area. These partners have a clinic, a school and a preschool. They are involved with many things, including job creation, teaching basic skills, and monitoring homes with OVC. I will be working with the children who attend the school. I will be teaching Biblical life skills and running after-school programs. At this point, there is one building that accommodates over 500 children. I will also be a member of a team that will be focusing on a Church-Planting Movement (CPM). The aim is to establish local churches that will, hopefully reproduce other new churches. I am so excited about this new chapter in my life, and the opportunity to bring the Gospel and Christ's love to the people of South Africa. Please remember to pray for South Africa, for the Tswana people, for Project HIV, and for me as I make this incredible journey. In Christ, " Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer." |
